The Wisdom of God

Devotional Released 8/27/20

“That night God appeared to Solomon and said, “What do you want? Ask, and I will give it to you!”
Solomon replied to God, “You showed great and faithful love to David, my father, and now you have made me king in his place.O Lord God, please continue to keep your promise to David my father, for you have made me king over a people as numerous as the dust of the earth! Give me the wisdom and knowledge to lead them properly, for who could possibly govern this great people of yours?”

I have been having an ongoing thought/download about the wisdom of God. From what I’ve been reading in the Bible and what these verses seem to point out a form of wisdom that is far greater than my original conception of wisdom to be. I think a lot of us imagine wisdom to be like an old man, having lived out his life on earth and who could give you a few stories and lessons from what he’s learned. Some of us might even think of wisdom as something we use in good decision making, of knowing the right thing to do in a somewhat blurry situation. 

While I do believe those forms of wisdom are correct in this picture, I also believe there is a deeper and fuller understanding we can come to in reading about wisdom in the Bible. As pictured above, what Solomon asked for from God seems to be the grandest of all things to be given from God, greater than any form of riches or wealth (which God decides to give Solomon anyways). And what it appears to me is that God actually gives Solomon the mind and the ability to operate as He, God himself, would operate and think.  Think about it, one of the famous conflict Solomon is known for solving in (1 Kings 3:16-28) of the two mothers and the baby is an answer he comes up with that is completely out of the box, divinely inspired—only to have been thought of by God himself. 

And here’s another point, just as King Solomon is used as a prophetic picture of the seed of David,Jesus, so is King Solomon’s life a prophetic picture of Jesus’ life. Think about all the questions and issues people bring up to Jesus and think about how his answers are completely original, unthought of, divinely inspired. Think of how Jesus instructed the Jews to give unto Caesar’s what is Caesar’s when trying to get trapped about paying for taxes in (Matthew 22:21) and how Jesus was constantly giving these crazy answers that were actually not originally in the options presented in the questions. It is totally divinely inspired. 

It really is what is at the beginning of all this, the fall of Adam and Eve. How Adam and Eve, while innocent and like children without being given the wisdom of God in His own property timing, chose to seek it elsewhere and on their own accounts. That is what the tree of the knowledge of good and evil really is. The wisdom of God being taken out of the timing of God. 

But now, as Jesus paid the price for us to have full access to this wisdom, the wisdom of Solomon and the wisdom of Christ. We can operate out of Divine wisdom. We are able to come up with answers and solutions that were originally not even on the table of what was being discussed as a problem. We can make manifest the wisdom of God in how we work, speak and do in this world.
